Help make inclusive and civic education a key lever for empowering communities, civil society and public authorities in five countries.
Places of intervention
The new Education programme comes at a time when political instability and the fragility of the education system persist, despite some progress, as in Brazil, Guinea-Bissau, Mozambique and Chad. In view of the growing interest shown by public authorities in civic and inclusive education, the EEA programme focuses on strengthening educational methodologies for vulnerable children, adolescents and young people, while supporting civil society. The integration of innovative methodologies, such as an approach inspired by Montessori in Guinea-Bissau or the transfer of the EDI methodology from Brazil to Mozambique, has shown encouraging results, but needs to be developed further. The experimentation in Koranic schools in Chad also highlights the need for local adaptations to the Citizen Pathway. At the same time, the second phase of the programme will strengthen the autonomy of the Youth Clubs, in particular through project management tools, to guarantee a lasting impact in the areas of intervention.
Our engagements
Stimulate the potential of children, adolescents and young people from vulnerable families to enable them to become agents of change in their communities.
Encourage the empowerment and collective commitment of those involved in education with a view to sustaining inclusive and socially responsible educational initiatives.
The project in action
- Diagnose the needs of pre-school children and teenagers
- Implement active teaching methods with pre-school children and support children with learning delays or difficulties
- Run the Citizen Pathway with vulnerable teenagers
- Train youth clubs to structure and plan their activities
- Support families through awareness-raising sessions and home visits
- Raise awareness of international solidarity and the Sustainable Development Goals among young people in the Hauts-de-France region
- Train technical teams to ensure that methodologies are adopted and sustained over the long term
- Consolidate and revitalise consultation forums and networks for public and private education players
Discussion groups will be set up for educators and youth workers to support their well-being and mental health, which are often undermined by their work with highly vulnerable groups. The Covid-19 pandemic has highlighted their feelings of loneliness and powerlessness, which are rarely addressed in training courses. These groups, inspired by the successful experience of ACOMVA in Brazil, will meet annually and will be led by psychologists or mediators. They will offer a structured space for exchange and reflection based on the principle of ‘taking care of who takes care’, while adapting to local specificities.
